An October Wedding

It feels a little strange writing about my personal life on here, but as some of you already know I got engaged back in February and the last few months have been spent planning the wedding. It has been overwhelming, and at times incredibly intimidating when confronted with the bridal magazines that are out there, with their images of perfectly styled weddings with professional wedding stylists, caterers, hair and makeup people, and an army of photographers and videographers. There have been many instances where I have wanted to throw in the towel as we have a very modest budget since our number one priority is to get our own place, much as it would be amazing to have a lavish wedding.

Everything we have planned for the wedding will be done on our own, although we are very fortunate to have family and friends on board to lend a hand. At times it has felt like I have bitten off more than I can chew, but I'm hoping it will all fall in place. We are having the wedding in a beautiful cathedral in Hugh's home town and the reception will be held at a little cottage by a lake, in the house where Hugh's nana grew up.

The dress I'm wearing is an authentic 1950s vintage dress from Paris and I am extremely pleased with it as it truly is the wedding dress of my dreams! As you know, I don't wear authentic vintage but I decided on a vintage dress for my wedding day as I feel a vintage piece is perfect for a one off special occasion. The bridesmaids dresses are all by an Australian vintage reproduction designer that I love, as of course it isn't possible to get a hold of four vintage bridesmaids dresses in varying sizes!

  2. Harlow, I don't think I knew this! Congratulations!! I can't wait to see your dress - you've said the magic words there: 1950s and Paris. More and more I think that if I get married I won't want to do the ridiculous magazine-style do, I'd much rather do something more home-grown and unique, so I wouldn't feel like yours is in any way inadequate because of a restricted budget - it will just be more special :) x

  7. Congratulations!!! I didn't know this either. I'm also getting married this Autumn, in September actually, and also on a modest budget (I've been doing a few posts on wedding stuff and have more coming up but a lot will wait until afterwards, so please do message me if there's anything specific you'd like to know about my plans!).

Really can't wait to see your pics and everything - good luck with the planning!

  9. i'm so excited to see your dress and to see photos of the whole wedding! i can't imagine how stressful it would be to plan a whole wedding but i'm sure it's going to be beautiful and at the end of the day it doesn't matter if you do it on a budget because even though it's very special, it's just one day of your life and it's far more important to spend the money on that house that you and your fiancee want to buy! i know some people want to spend $50,000 or $100,000 on their weddings but i'm a lot more pracitcal than that and i think if a wedding was going to cost that much money i'd rather do it on the cheap and have my partner and i travel the world for a year or buy a place together.

  11. Congratulations! Your wedding dress sounds beautiful! I'm sure you will have the most wonderful day. I can't imagine how stressful it might be, especially these days when weddings seem to be a huge production worth $$$$$. All you have to do is make it feel special to you. Cookie cutter, magazine perfection can be boring anyway! :)

  14. Congrats on your engagement!
I want to say couple calming words about the wedding. Since I've worked years in wedding boutique I have seen many different brides and many different ways on doing a wedding. Modern times seem to create a pressure to perform and to create perfect and massively mindblowing weddings. However, the most important thing is that the wedding looks like you. You two are the main thing on the whole thing. Without you there is no wedding. So make it your own, your way and your style. Lovely wedding doesn't need wedding planners or dozens of photographers or big arse budget.

I hope you both enjoy the wedding day (despite of the pressure it's created) and I wish you best of luck!
